How the round works
The hide and seek loop, in three steps
Meccha Chameleon is a paint-and-hide game. Each round runs the same way whether you play solo, with friends, or in a public room.
Two roles per round
Players split into Hiders and Seekers. Hiders paint their body to match the surrounding surface, then freeze. Seekers scan the map and tag the ones they spot.
Paint to match, not to hide
Your edge is the giveaway. Pick a colour close to the wall, floor, or prop behind you, then break the silhouette by matching the patterns around the object.
6 official maps
Mansion library, indoor country, sewer, Osaka, penguin hotel, and backrooms - each with different surfaces, lighting, and hiding logic.
Hider tips
8 tips to out-camo the seeker
Hiding is about colour, posture, and noise - not just dark corners. These tips come from rounds where the seeker walked past three times.
- 1
Pick a surface with visual noise (books, posters, wood grain, brick) - blank walls are the first place a Seeker looks.
- 2
Match the secondary colour, not just the dominant one. A red brick wall has grey mortar - paint both.
- 3
Crouch or lean so your silhouette becomes part of the prop. A standing chameleon on a wall is obvious.
- 4
Watch the lighting. If the wall is in shadow, your paint also needs shadow - otherwise you glow in the dark.
- 5
Pre-pick your hiding spot during the free-paint phase. Last-second moves are the most spotted.
- 6
Listen to footsteps. The Seeker walks slower near suspicious spots - if they slow down, stay frozen.
- 7
A good hiding spot answers three questions: similar color, credible posture, and a place the Seeker has no reason to look twice.
- 8
Use props. Standing inside a tall bookshelf or behind a stack of boxes gives you a head start even with imperfect camo.
Hide and seek FAQ
Hide and seek, answered
Is hide and seek the same as the main game?
Yes. Hide and seek is the core loop of Meccha Chameleon - you paint, hide, and either survive the round or tag the hiders as the seeker.
How long is one hide and seek round?
Most rounds last 2-3 minutes: a short paint phase, then a seeker hunt. Easy mode gives a longer paint window for new players.
Can I play hide and seek with friends?
Yes. Use the friend room from the in-game menu and share the room code. Free-for-all rounds and seeker-only rounds both work.
